Medical devices refer to the instruments, equipment, apparatus, in vitro diagnostic reagents and calibrators, materials and other similar or related articles directly or indirectly used in human body, including the required computer software.

The utility is mainly obtained by physical means, not by pharmacology, immunology or metabolism, or with the participation of these ways, it only plays an auxiliary role.

The purpose is the diagnosis, prevention, monitoring, treatment or remission of diseases; diagnosis, monitoring, treatment, remission or functional compensation of injuries; examination, substitution, regulation or support of physiological structure or physiological process; life support or maintenance; pregnancy control; and providing information for medical or diagnostic purposes by examining samples from the human body.

Many medical technology fields need to be applied to the surface film layer, which can be used as a vacuum to provide a wide range of process and equipment support for these applications. PVD films prepared by magnetron sputtering or thermal evaporation ensure that the surfaces of surgical instruments, implants and medical devices meet the strict application requirements. Typical requirements include biocompatibility, improved mechanical and appearance properties, corrosion resistance to acid and alkali and simple cleaning.

Some processes of thin-film sensors and electronic components of medical devices are completed by integrating vacuum coating equipment and process. The coating made of precious metal material, especially silver, ensures the antibacterial property of the surface of catheter, implant or bandage. Copper films are used in hospital equipment. Dark, rough PVD surface antireflection properties - extremely important in magnetically controlled optics and photography.
